    Distributed Support for Intelligent Environments

    Get PDF
This thesis describes research on methods for Ubiquitous/Pervasive Computing to better suit users in an Intelligent Environment. The approach is to create and equip a computing environment, such as our Active Office, with technologies that can identify user needs and meet these need in a timely, efficient and unobtrusive manner.ยถ The critical issues in the Intelligent Environment are how to enable transparent, distributed computing to allow continued operation across changing circumstances and how to exploit the changing environment so that it is aware of the context of user location, the collection of nearby people and objects, accessible devices and changes to those objects over time.ยถ Since the Intelligent Environment is an environment with rapid and rich computing processing, the distributed context processing architecture (DiCPA) was developed to manage and respond to rapidly changing aggregation of sensor data. This architecture is a scalable distributed context processing architecture that provides: 1. continued operation across changing circumstances for users, 2. the collection of nearby people and objects, 3. accessible devices and 4. the changes to those objects over time in the environment. The DiCPA approach focuses on how the Intelligent Environment provides context information for user location, user mobility and the user activity model. Users are assumed mobile within the Intelligent Environment and can rapidly change their access to relevant information and the availability of communications and computational resources.ยถ Context-Aware Computing is a new approach in software engineering for Intelligent Environment. ..

location for mobile user. It works with small mobile devices such as PDAs and it is combined with the speech recognition systems on how the environment response delivered to the location of the user. It has been developed using an advanced and robust algorithm in determining user location for indoor environment which offers location precision accuracy in small room scale. iLukBa capable to handle the unpredictability of IEEE 802.11 (Wifi) signals across perturbation in space, and in time (diurnally) by using Wifi's signal strenght.iLukBa also provides direct service delivery when a user on the move from on location to another, the environment response in delevering service is based on the speed of user.Dynamic buffer is created, the buffer size depends on the speed of the user. The faster a user moves, the smaller the buffer in delevering the speech.iLukBa is a proof of concept of a low cost smart environment capability , i.e. indoor user location can be determined and the environment response can be delivered using speech recognition based on indoor user location

A user profile for information filtering using RFID-SIM card in pervasive network

The appearance of new technologies allows new data processing techniques. Thus, many new data processing techniques make difficult to user to find pertinent information in suitable time, unless knowing what accurately is in search of, where and how getting it. This paper proposes a pervasive network based information filtering system that integrates user profile such as identity, preference and other important data. User profile is embarked in a RFID-SIM card in order to guarantee its privacy, flexibility, mobility and confidentiality. The overall system objectives are privacy, security and providing pertinent information to the user according to his profile at anytime, anywhere, and in any form. The design and implementation of the system is also presented

    Web application development process

There are a lot of challenges when it comes to the developing of the right web site with the application at the right time. Web sites that initially started as a few Web pages grew in size and after a while became unmanageable. There are a lot of cases where managers wanting to develop Web sites for their organizations getting frustrated because they could not get the Web site they wanted to developed in a timely manner within a reasonable budget. Another common downside occurrence is that if an information change, appropriate changes to all relevant Web pages becomes very difficult. Although, by performing a context analysis and developing a product model and a process model before going into the details will be able to allow developers to meet the client I user requirements. Unfortunately, information are dynamic, each day there are onward addition of updates and subtraction of outdate these however remain as a strong challenges, as a result this chapter provide some possible ways of respond to some challenges faced while developing a particular web site called "Peer Student Portal". A highdegree of client-user participation (problem analysis), testing (as the measure issue) and flexibility of web application has been recognized to be some of the major critical activities during web developmen

Quality Translation Enhancement Using Sequence Knowledge and Pruning in Statistical Machine Translation

Machine translation has two important parts, a learning process which followed by a translation process. Unfortunately, most of the translation process requires complex operations and in-depth knowledge of the languages in order to give a good quality translation. This study proposes a better approach, which does not require in-depth knowledge of the linguistic properties of the languages, but it produces a good quality translation. This study evaluated 28 different parameters in IRSTLM language modeling, which resulting 270 millions experiments, and proposes a sequence evaluation mechanism based on a maximum evaluation of each parameter in producing a good quality translation based on NIST and BLEU. The parallel corpus and statistical machine learning for English and Bahasa Indonesia were used in this study. The pruning process, user interface, and the personalization of translation have a very important role in implementing of this machine translation. The result is quite promising. It shows that pruning process increases of the translation process time. The particular sequence knowledge/value parameter in translation process has a better performance than the other method using in-depth linguistic knowledge approaches. All these processes, including the process of parsing from a stand-alone mode to an online mode, are also discussed in detail

Sentiment Analysis for the Brazilian Anesthesiologist Using Multi-Layer Perceptron Classifier and Random Forest Methods

Sexual harassment is defined as giving sexual attention both verbally, either in speech or writing, and physically to victims who are predominantly women, On July 13, 2022, there was a tweet featuring a video of sexual harassment that made it trend in various countries. The video irritated Twitter users and made various comments resulting in various sentiments that can be analyzed using sentiment analysis. The purpose of this study is to see what the public thinks about the sexual harassment case of Brazilian anesthesiologist. Besides the sentiment analysis, another aim of this study is to see how objective are those sentiments based on their polarity. This study uses a comparison of two methods in sentiment analysis, namely Multi-Layer Perceptron Classifier and Random Forest, and labeling automatically using TextBlob.ย  This results in 94.44% accuracy, 94.44% precision, 92% recall and 93% f1_score. For MLP Classifier and accuracy 96.42%, precision 94.44%, recall 96.66% and f1_score 95.56% for Random Forest. Sentiment polarity score from the TextBlob is -0.5 and subjectivity is 0.4 which indicates that most statements are negative and subjective score is 0.4, which means those sentiments are subjective in nature

Online authentication using smart card technology in mobile phone infrastructure

The widespread of Internet usage has resulted in a greater number and variety of applications involving different types of private information. In order to diminish privacy concerns and strengthen user trust, security improvements in terms of authentication are necessary. The solutions need to be convenient, entailing ease of use and higher mobility. The suggested approach is to make use of the already popular mobile phone and to involve the mobile network, benefiting from Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cardโ€™s tamper resistance to become trusted entities guarding personal information and identifying users. Mobile phoneโ€™s SIM card is convenient for safely storing security parameters essential for secured communication. It becomes secure entity compulsory for getting access to privacy sensitive Internet applications, like those involving money transfers. Utilizing the NFC interface passes the personal user keys only when needed, giving additional strength to the traditional public key cryptography approach in terms of security and portability

Multi-user navigation: a 3D mobile device interactive support

Multi-User navigation within an environment with the aid of 3D mobile support provides end users with additional mobility thought and improves mobility servicesโ€™ efficiency. A necessary approach of using mobile device for navigation aid is to display only a section of the view-front and to let users control the portion shown by conceptually moving on the orientation. There is a need for multiple users to be able to interact with themselves when they are within an environment and navigating with the aid of 3D mobile devices support, in order to meet-up with an appointment or to be aware of the locations of each other. Unfortunately, the predominant 3D mobile navigation system does not provide multi-user interactive services. Users cannot be aware of other users navigating within same environment using the same system on their mobile devices at the same time. This paper presents multi-user 3D mobile navigation system for providing multiple user awareness. The analysis of the results provides a unique visualization of multiple users using mobile devices to help them navigate to a target location by being aware of their whereabouts
